An online writing and publishing platform for budding creatives, aimed at students and graduates.
A few details
Launched in 2013, The Student Wordsmith is an online writing and publishing platform for budding creatives.
Aimed at a student and graduate audience specifically, the platform is continuing to grow and evolve as it moves into its third year of activity.
The Student Wordsmith is here to inspire creativity, encouraging individuals to give writing a go. Its debut collection gives current students and graduates the chance to have their say on the ‘university experience’ whilst providing others with hints and tips on what to expect on arrival at university.
In this sense, The Student Wordsmith is about bringing together the work of emerging new creatives, showcasing potential unknown talents, and publishing them into collaborative collections or end products that focus on the useful, meaningful, and important topics of everyday life.
During its first year, The Student Wordsmith opened its website and a brand-new, national writing competition entitled, ‘You is for University’, to students and graduates throughout the UK.
The response to the competition was huge and, during its second year, the resulting collection, You is for University: The A-Z Student Guide on How to Survive – which contains over 50 pieces of writing and offers a unique guide to the university experience – was published in two editions.
The first, a limited edition Writer’s collection, was published by The Student Wordsmith in January 2014, whilst the second – published by Lamplight Press in July 2014 – was produced to take the anthology to market.
The Student Wordsmith now has hundreds of followers and avid readers of the poetry, plays and prose it publishes, both online and in print.
In April 2014, the creative platform was named Overall Winner of Loughborough University’s Graduate Enterprise Award and both editions of its debut collection are now available to buy on Amazon.
As it moves into its third year, The Student Wordsmith will be running four more national competitions, including the return of favourite ‘You is for University’. It will be opening submissions to its website and introducing a new, National Awards event for student and graduate writers.
